It has been a busy time for sporting fixtures lately and the next few weeks are just as busy.

On 21st February we had three teams playing in the Maidenhead and Ascot TAG Rugby Challenge. The A team finished as overall winners and will now progress to the Sports Games Finals. The B team made the runners up final where they lost a very close match against St Edmund Campion by 7 goals to 6. Our C team played really well, they are a young team and learnt a lot.

The quarter finals of the football county cup were also held last week. The team travelled to Newbury to play Falkland Primary School and lost the match by 3 goals to 0. We did well to reach this stage of the competition so well done to all who played.

The football league is well under way now and again we have 3 teams playing so it will be a very busy term. The A team played there first fixtures last week against Courthouse and Wessex Schools, losing one match and drawing in the other. Good luck to all three teams for the rest of their matches, details of the results will be on the newsletters.

This week we also have the County Hockey Finals which are being held at Wellington College in Crowthorne. Along with St Edmund Campion we will be representing Windsor and Maidenhead, again results will be in next weeks newsletter. Good luck to the team.

Next week the netball team will be in action in a High 5 tournament at Newlands Girls school and also have league matches at Kidwells Park on Thursday 8th March. Once again we wish them luck and hope they enjoy all their games.

Finally, we have a TAG Rugby tournamemt for the younger players next week. Our Year 3/4 team will be taking part in the RBWM Tournament on Wednesday 13th March, being held at Desborough School.

Oldfield held their annual carol concert last night, with the Salvation Army hosting a sell-out crowd.

New to the event this year were some solo buglers from the school and the rather wonderful school choir who sang a brilliant arrangement as conducted by Miss Parfitt. The piano was played by Sarah Swain and it was a real crowd pleaser.

Special mention really ought to go to Matthew Copeman, the sole boy in the choir, alongside a dozen female compatriots. No doubt he will look back on this and smile…

For those who couldn’t make it or would like to relive it – the video’s below. Note the password is the same as for the nativity play.

On Thursday 17th November the Oldfield football team went to Harmanswater Primary School in Bracknell for the first round of the County competition.

Here is a report on the match written by Ben Fortuin and Samuel Phelps.

In the first half we went 1:0 down. We battled hard and found a goal in the last minutes of the half but sadly they came back and were winning 2:1 at the interval. We were playing better football on the day and Mr Jarrett told us to be patient, he was right, we battled and played great football.

The final result was that we won 4:2, well done to the team, great football.

To me the man of the match was Samuel Phelps for scoring 2 great goals and playing his heart out. Well done.

We have our second match at home, this Thursday 24th November against Willowbank School from Woodley, Reading.

Having personally experienced Adrian’s (sp?) talents at Dads in School day, I already had an idea what the Keystage 1 performance would look like, however watching 100 children under his spell, was quite amazing.

A truly inspirational teacher, a truly inspired group of children, and a bunch of very smiley mums and dads…

Enjoy this – it’s tremendous!

Friday 1st July 10.00am

Weather today is much better, nice and sunny. Mrs Powers is ready to come home, it has been too cold for her!!

Today all the children will be walking a hilltop trail. They will be in their groups and think that they are on their own and that the staff are having a rest at the centre. Before you start to panic this isn’t really the case! Mrs Powers and co will be sitting at the top of the hill and will have the children in their sights all the time!

Last night all the children were very very tired and slept well. One more night to go and then you will have them back, don’t forget to get the shopping in, the hoover out and the ironing ready. They will be tired but I am sure they will want to demonstrate their new skills!

Thursday 30th June 9.30am

Unfortunately the weather has changed a bit , it has been raining and turned chilly. That hasn’t stopped them having a great time. Some did manage to get out sailing yesterday and today the activities will also include canoeing and gorge walking. There is one group who haven’t been to the slate mine so they will go today.

Last night the children practised their street dance for Performance Friday and also their pantomime.

We definitely have a budding bunch of Molly Maids as they are now hoovering the dormitories without being asked and Mrs Powers has even been asked for an iron.

She has also had to reassure one child that their hair still looked perfect as they walked down the mountain and the hair gel that had been so carefully applied in the morning was still doing it’s job!

Wednesday 29th June 9.30am

The weather has been very changeable, today is sunny but cool. The children were doing their chores which include sweeping the minibuses, cleaning the common room, emptying bins and setting the table. Very useful skills to acquire – no excuse for untidy bedrooms now as apparently they are doing these chores exceptionally well!

Yesterday two groups went mountain walking and one went to the slate mine. Some children managed to find every pot hole possible on the walk but all had great fun. Today will be similar although hoping sailing will be on the agenda too.

Still eating for England, seems like the record for bowls of cereal has reached at least 5.

Last night they took part in a problem solving challenge to devise a piece of equipment that would protect an egg if dropped from a height.

All this mental and physical stimulation means everybody is sleeping very well!

Tuesday 28th June 9.00am

Great fun had by all on their activities yesterday, it rained in the afternoon but it didn’t really affect them. The lake is very cold this time of year as Mrs Moore found out! Behaviour is excellent and they are doing Oldfield proud.

Last night they practised their pantomime and then slept very well.

Mrs Powers has never seen children eat so much, quote “they are eating enormous amounts of food, I have never seen anything like it”. All had a three course meal last night with most going back for seconds and nearly all had two bowls of cereal this morning. Might be wise to stock up for when they get home!

Activities today will probably be the same as yesterday with the groups swapping round, if the weather looks ok there may be a mountain walk.

The children were given their letters to read this morning before doing their chores.

Year 6 arrived safely at 3.00pm yesterday, all managed the journey well with no sickness! They spent the rest of the day unpacking and getting to know the centre. There will be extra geography lessons for one class member who insisted that they had reached Devon when they stopped at Telford services!

Monday 9.15am

Everyone slept very well and after having breakfast are busy doing their chores. The children will be split into their groups and will will either be gorge walking and canoeing, visiting the slate mine or sailing.

At the moment the weather is fantastic, very hot, although rain is forecast for later this afternoon.
